The Cyber Security Maturity Model Certification
As a Canadian organization where and when do you start?
Ignite Security specializes in defense industry cybersecurity, assessments, compliance, and certification.
If your organization is bidding on DoD work, or is included in the supply chain for a contractor that does business with the DoD, you have likely already noticed changes in mandatory compliance requirements.
The DoD has set a deadline of 2026 for all defense contractors, sub contractors, and supply chain vendors to be CMMC compliant.
The CMMC is a cybersecurity framework introduced by the US Department of Defense (DoD) in January of 2020. Its purpose is to standardize cybersecurity preparedness for many organizations which do business with DoD, either directly or indirectly – including Canadian businesses.
The best time to start is now. Although full use of the CMMC framework is not anticipated until early 2026, the DoD is already including CMMC specifications in its procurement processes.
Get all the tools you need to meet the requirements for a CMMC certification. We’ll work with you to assess your cybersecurity ecosystem and bring it into alignment with the CMMC framework.
Cyber threats are rapidly evolving, especially in the defense industry. CMMC enables organizations like yours to show they are capable, sophisticated, and agile in an ever-changing landscape.
How is CMMC different from NIST compliance?
NIST is a self-compliance framework whereas CMMC requires third-party audit and certification. NIST compliance is a good start and will help prepare organizations to upgrade to the CMMC.
Any defense industrial base (DIB) contractor or organization wishing to supply goods or services to the US Department of Defense or its prime contractors. It is estimated more than 300,000 companies will be affected by the new requirements.
Are all contractors required to meet the same requirements?
No. The framework specifies five levels of progressive cybersecurity maturity. It is estimated that most contracts will require Level 1 to Level 3, but it depends on the type of goods and services being provided.
When does the CMMC take effect?
The CMMC framework is already in use. The first version of the framework was released on January 31, 2020, and the first round of RFIs to include CMMC specifications were released in September 2020.
